Episode 55: Nancy Barile (author) "I'm Not Holding Your Coat"
/

Nancy Barile has seen things. She has seen some awesome things and not so awesome things. The former has informed Nancy on how to deal with the latter and fortunately for us, she’s documented all of it in her memoir “I’m Not Holding Your Coat”. Nancy grew up a suburban, Catholic school girl that fell in love with music and eventually found her way to hardcore-punk. But, she wasn’t just a spectator content to sit on sidelines. She managed bands and booked shows during the first wave of 80’s hardcore. Nancy has also been an english teacher for the past 29 years – so naturally I was eager to speak with her about some of the music that had impacted her life.

Here’s some of the artists we cover;
Ohio Players, David Bowie, The O’Jays, SS Decontrol, Bad Brains and Blondie.

You can order her memoir from www.bazillionpoints.com

Episode 54: Davin (Marked for Life podcast, xKingdomx, Eaten Alive) "Only the SICKEST shit"
/

Davin grew up in rural Maine and discovered hardcore and punk through radio shows and mix tapes. She hasn’t been the same since. Marked for Life is modelled after the great college radio shows that focused on hardcore. Davin plays the “sickest shit” and has introduced me to a couple newer bands that I might not otherwise noticed. I asked myself, “What’s causin’ all this?” (apologies to Arn Anderson) and thought I’d go to the source.

Here’s some of the bands we rambled on about;

Fear, Warzone, Turmoil, Stiff Meds, Circus, Dead Heat, Floorpunch, Trip 6, A Chorus of Disapproval, Reagan Youth and Agnostic Front.

You can listen to Marked For Life on Apple Podcasts and Spotify along with the playlists that accompany each episode. You can also visit the website –

Ian and I met when he was the vocalist for hardcore greats Down In Flames. He is the current vocalist for Fright – who have released their debut Lp on guitarist Nate Wilson’s Gloom Records. I had a great time catching up with Ian and I hope to possibly catch Fright live this summer. You can check Fright out at the link below.

In addition to the story I tell in the intro, here’s some of what I discuss with Ian; Spaceman 3, Sacrilege, Black Sabbath, Stooges, Spazm 151, Samael, Bolt Thrower, Bathory and Asschapel.

David Giffels is a buddy of mine and the author of “Furnishing Eternity”, “The Hardway on Purpose”, “Barnstorming Ohio” and others. He was played guitar and was the vocalist for The Difficult and The May Company. David and I became acquainted at The Lime Spider in the early 2000’s – crossing paths infrequently thereafter. However, I’ve enjoyed his work and knew he’d have some interesting insights of the Akron Music scene and music in general. I highly recommend “Furnishing Eternity”, but you can check out all his stuff at the link below.

We were able to get this is 1 Part and here are some the artists we talk about;
The Dark, Devo, Wussy, LCD Soundsystem, R.E.M.,Wilco, The Band, The Crucifucks and the Replacements.

Who doesn’t love Pizza? Erick Eagol of Keepin’ It 99 DEFINITELY loves pizza. He’s been throwing “Pizza Parties” for a couple of years now and inviting his friends to play. There’s a party this Saturday – January 22 – at Annabell’s in Akron and this one features Wallcreeper, Avowal and Radian. I thought I’d chat with a few of the principals (Erick/Ki99, Elyse/Avowal, Mike/Radian) and take the opportunity to ambush them! I asked each of the what they’ve been up to and what their 3 favorite songs by local bands.

WE MADE IT TO 50!!!

My guests on this episode take over and turn the tables on me. Chris, Alex and Derek of NCS grill me about 5 of my ALL TIME favorite albums. We go deep on Sabbath, Voivod, Eric B. & Rakim, Television and Black Flag. Anyone that has listened to the Post Script for any length of time would be surprised by these picks. But, it’s a fun conversation with three maniacs steering the ship.

Episode 49: One Year Ago (A reintroduction)
/

Bleachmouth Post Script is an “interview” podcast that intended to feature folks originally from or currently residing the Akron area (though not exclusively) discussing their favorite music. Typically my guests were people that I have met over the years through my involvement in the local and national hardcore/punk music “scene”. Some of these people are close friends – others, not so much. Each guest picks five records (or songs) that they love and we talk about them. It is that simple.

I don’t claim to be a music expert and cannot vouch for the relative expertise of my guests. That isn’t the point. I simply wanted to sit down with musicians, artists, writers, as well as people from other walks of life, and talk about music.

The first episode (Ep. ZERO) was an introduction similar to what you’ve just read. However, I wanted to record a little reintroduction episode and send a little “thank you” for anyone that has listened to the podcast or helped out along the way.

Thanks for checking in – Enjoy!
